South Dakota electric service statements include an Energy Adjustment and four riders. For additional information please refer to specific rate schedules.听
The Energy Adjustment includes the cost of fuel we use to generate electricity to serve our retail customers, transportation costs for that fuel, and costs we incur to buy energy to supplement our own power plants. Effective August 1, 2019, each service category (listed below) will have its own rate.

As of December 2014 the Environmental Cost Recovery Rider (ECRR) allows our company to recover costs that we incur to meet federal environmental quality requirements for our electric generating facilities. The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission approved our request for an ECRR to include the costs associated with an听air-quality control system (AQCS) at Big Stone plant in South Dakota and Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) at Hoot Lake Plant. The AQCS and MATS projects allowed Big Stone Plant and Hoot Lake Plant to meet federal air quality requirements. Hoot Lake Plant was retired in May 2021.

The Phase-In Rider includes two components. The first component is a percent of base rates designed to recover costs associated with generation projects and streamline approved adjustments to our customers. The second component is a monthly per meter charge to recover Advanced Grid Infrastructure costs (which include Advanced Metering Infrastructure, an Outage Management System, and Demand Response investments). This rider helps ensure we can continue to provide safe, reliable service.
